Do you belong to the group of morning grouches and are unresponsive for the first few hours of the day? Thanks to the results of a study, you'll never have to apologize for that again - there are different morning types.
Morning types: Morning grouch or early riser?
Some are already in a good mood in the shower in the morning, others are happy if they can get out of bed at all. For the morning grouch, waking up before nine o'clock in the morning is "inhumanly early", but he doesn't know tiredness in the evening. The early riser, on the other hand, has difficulty keeping his eyes open while watching the daytime news in the evening. But why do people react so differently to different times of the day?
The results of a recent U.S. study now provide an answer. The researchers examined the genetic material of around 90,000 people for sleep genes - and published their data in the scientific journal "Nature Communications". But what did they find out?
This is what the study says
As part of the study, the test subjects indicated whether they would rather describe themselves as a morning person or an evening type. They were then examined. The result: our genes are not entirely uninvolved in our morning behavior. Among the morning types, 15 similar positions were found in the genome - seven of these sections are located very close to genes that have already been researched and that presumably regulate the sleep-wake rhythm.
Other studies also provide evidence that the typology of morning grouch and early riser is not a lifestyle invention of city dwellers. After all, the body temperature of evening people rises later than that of morning people. And the release of the sleep hormone melatonin is also delayed in morning grouches.
