Diet shakes promise you fast and healthy weight loss. But is that really true? Öko-Test put 16 weight loss powders under the microscope.
Twelve out of 16 drinks insufficient
Under the microscope, ko-Test examined 16 diet smoothies from drugstores and pharmacies. The results demonstrate that the so-called wonder powders are anything but. Ingredients, nutrient content, information on use, and customer instructions were all studied in the slimming drinks. Twelve of the sixteen beverages were deemed "insufficient." Harmful ingredients and sweeteners, artificial tastes, genetically engineered soy, a lack of customer education, and an imbalanced composition are among the reasons.
Poor marks for brand names
Three products, including the heavily touted Almased, Yokebe, and Slim-Fast, were given the "unsatisfactory" label. The testers discovered genetically altered soy as well as risky chemical items such as chlorate in the Diät powder Almased important food. Yokebe Die Aktivkost Classic, a diet drink, made false claims such as "unique nutrient density" and "naturally tasty slimming." The drink lacks enough potassium and fiber to meet the required daily ratio, according to ko-Test.
"Slim-Fast! Milkshake Powder Vanilla Flavor" does not comply with the dietary regulation, according to Öko Test. In addition, there was a lack of clear indications that diet shakes should only be taken for a certain period of time, and that it is important to change one's entire diet for weight loss success.
Only one product can score
Only one product received the "adequate" rating, indicating that it is the best diet drink on the market. In terms of ingredient analysis, the "Doppelherz Aktiv Diät Shake" with vanilla taste proved convincing. Positive: The manufacturer specifies a permanent dietary adjustment as well as a time limit for drinking the drink. However, due to a lack of application-oriented knowledge, points were subtracted.
Why formula diets are difficult
In general, formula diets aren't a good substitute for a healthy diet modification. Those looking to lose weight on a long-term basis should focus on eating healthy, low-fat foods rather than Shakes or tablets. Diet smoothies only work for a brief period of time: the pounds drop, but the yo-yo effect kicks in soon after. As a result, it's preferable to lose weight gradually because the negative effects of reduced energy intake can be significant.
